What we all accomplished

February 22, 2014
Fairmont Sentinel

To the Editor:

The Fairmont area came through again. Martin County Kids Against Hunger held its sixth successful pack Feb. 15 at the Fairmont National Guard Armory. This is a huge community effort that involves donations and volunteerism from businesses, church and civic groups, and individuals.

We packed 89,424 meals and raised more than $29,000. What a testimony to the generosity and compassion of the people of this area.

The Armory was filled with smiling faces as more than 400 people cheerfully labored for the cause of fighting hunger in the world. People of all ages gladly gave of their time on a Saturday to package the vitamin-fortified soy-rice mixture that is a life-saving "super food" to those in dire need. It's heartwarming to see what communities can accomplish when they all pull together for a worthy cause such as Kids Against Hunger.

A hug thank you to everyone who shared in this spirit-filled day. Every donation of time, talent and treasure is sincerely appreciated. May God bless you all for your part in this amazing event.
