FAIRMONT - The Class A, No. 9-ranked Fairmont Cardinals girls cross country team ended a run of two years and claimed the I-90 Invite title, while the Class A, No. 5-ranked Martin County West Mavericks boys team defended its invite championship on Thursday at Cedar Creek Park in Fairmont.

After dominating the meet for a majority of the 2000s, the Cardinal girls had gone two years without taking home the crown, but that ended Thursday.

Less than a minute separated the Cardinals' top runner - Jenna Pavich - and their seventh runner - Katiana Fischer - in the race.
