B.E. Area grapplers eliminate Medford

BLUE EARTH - The Section 2A, No. 2-seeded Blue Earth Area Bucs trailed 18-6 early, but responded with eight straight wins to down the No. 7-seeded Medford Tigers, 58-24, in the team wrestling quarterfinals on Thursday night in Blue Earth.

The Bucs (23-4) advance to face No. 3-seeded United South Central (17-8) in the Section 2A semifinal meet at 2 p.m. Saturday in New Richland.

The Rebels defeated No. 6-seeded St. Clair/ Mankato Loyola, 58-14, in quarterfinal action in Wells.

Class A, No. 8-ranked 106-pounder Seth Elwood started out the dual with a victory for the Tigers, pinning Zach Buseman in the 106-pound match in 3:30.

Camden Bowers responded with a pin for the Bucs at 113, pressing Nate Miezner's shoulders to the mat in 1:02 to even the dual meet.

The Tigers then got a pair of pins to take a 12-point lead. Marcus Deleon pinned Matt Goodrich in 3:29 at 120, before Class A, No. 4-ranked 120-pounder Tyler Keller claimed a fall in 4:57 over Jordan Stelter at 126.

Mike Ankeny then started the Bucs' winning streak by pinning Javis Von Ruden in 55 seconds at 132.

Jesse Alleven followed his teammate with a technical fall win at 138, downing Nick Masso in 3:43.

Class A, No. 5-ranked 160-pounder Carter Hanson also claimed a technical fall victory for the Bucs, beating Nick Von Ruden in 5:04 in the 160-pound match.

Gus Phillips took a pin for a win in 1:24 of the 170-pound match, beating Trevor Grems.

Class A, No. 4-ranked 195-pounder Kysten Zierke (195); Class A, No. 8-ranked 285-pounder Martin Granados (285); Luke Schavey (145); David Franta (152) and Chris Ramos (182) all received forfeits for the Bucs in the team victory.

Nathan Elzen claimed the final victory for the Tigers, pinning Micah Twedt in the 220-pound match.

Section 4A Team Meet

St. James 49, Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther 20 - The Section 4A, No. 3-seeded Saints posted a 49-20 team quarterfinal triumph over the No. 6-seeded Jayhawks on Thursday night at Sibley East High School in Arlington.

St. James (14-8) advances to grapple No. 2-seeded Sibley East in the sectional team semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday at Norwood Young America. The Wolverines (18-8) reached the next round via a 64-14 triumph over No. 7-seeded Le Sueur-Henderson.

Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther ended its dual-meet wrestling season with a 6-13 record.

No individual results were available when the Sentinel went to press on Thursday night.

Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther competes in the Section 4A Individual Meet at 5:30 p.m. next Friday in Le Sueur.
