MCW, TML hoopsters capture Showcase wins

SHERBURN - The Martin County West Mavericks utilized a 16-for-22 shooting performance at the free throw line to help fuel a 63-56 victory over the Mankato Loyola Crusaders during Valley Conference Showcase basketball action on Thursday night in Sherburn.

Jake Faber delivered 15 points to ignite the Mavericks' balanced offensive effort, while teammate Austin Krumwiede collected a double-double of 14 points and a game-best 11 rebounds.

Cordell Weber contributed 11 points to MCW's winning ways, while Kyle Brolsma neared double-double territory by scoring nine points to go with 10 rebounds.

The Mavericks connected on 16 of 31 shots from 2-point range, while sinking 5 of 12 shots from behind the 3-point arc on the game.

Carson Seifert scored 15 points to top Loyola's effort, while teammates Tanner Tanhoff and Alex Piemental supplied 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Crusaders made only 10 of 18 free throws on the game.

Martin County West (17-4) faces Maple River in Showcase action at 6 p.m. Saturday in Truman.

Truman/Martin Luther 66, Cleveland 60 - Cade Ekstrom produced all-around numbers of 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals to help the BluejayKnights edge the Clippers, 66-60, during Showcase action Thursday night in Cleveland.

Sam Geistfeld chalked up another double-double performance of 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace TML, while teammate Jeremy Smith nearly matched Geistfeld's numbers by netting 17 points and nine boards.

DaMarko Thomas contributed 13 points to the BluejayKnights' winning ways.

TML connected on 21 of 57 shots from the field and 20 of 28 free throws on the game.

Tommy Kraft unleashed a game-best 30 points for Cleveland, while teammate Tyler Seitz contributed 16 points.

The Clippers made 22 of 63 shots from the floor and 8 of 10 at the charity stripe.

Truman/Martin Luther (12-10) plays St. Clair in Showcase action at 2 p.m. Saturday in Truman.

St. Clair 66, Granada-Huntley-East Chain 50 - Tyler Fandrich generated a game-leading 26 points to power the Cyclones past the Mustangs, 66-50, during Showcase action on Thursday night at East Chain School.

Ryan Kruse scored 18 points for St. Clair to eclipse the 1,000-point career scoring plateau.

Dylan Petrowiak delivered 13 points and seven rebounds to pace GHEC, while Logan Pytleski chipped in 12 points and five boards.

Ryan Shumski netted eight points for the Mustangs, Jared Green pulled down six caroms, Trent Stensland hauled in five boards, while Konnor Kristenson dished out four assists.

The Mustangs made 22 of 40 shots from 2-point distance, 0 of 6 behind the 3-point line and only 6 of 26 at the free throw line.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain (5-13) faces Cleveland in Showcase action at noon Saturday in Truman.
