B.E. Area edges St. James

ST. JAMES - Micah Twedt delivered the meet-clinching fall during 220-pound wrestling action to guide the Blue Earth Area Bucs to a 33-22 South Central Conference dual-meet triumph over the St. James Saints on Friday night in St. James.

Ahead 27-19 in the team scoring, Twedt pinned Adrian Torres in 5:04 to extend the Bucs' lead to 14 points with only the heavyweight match remaining.

Class A, No. 5-ranked Victor Torres of the Saints then doubled the score, 6-3, on No. 9-ranked Martin Granados during 285-pound action.

Zach Buseman opened the dual meet by recording one of Blue Earth Area's eight winning decisions - a 3-2 victory over Mario Garcia - during 106-pound action.

Angel Zamarripa answered for the Saints by edging Camden Bowers, 8-7, at 113 before St. James' Cody Hanson recorded a fall over Matt Goodrich in 1:27 at 120. Hanson holds the No. 9 spot in the Class A 113-pound rankings.

No. 2-ranked Richard Soto extended the Saints' advantage by fending off Jordan Stelter, 6-3, during 126-pound action before St. James teammate Isaac Carreon squeezed past Mike Ankeny, 2-0, at 132.

Blue Earth Area's Jesse Alleven earned a 9-1 major decision over Mark Alvarado at 138 to trigger the visiting lineup's string of five consecutive wins.

Luke Schavey posted an 11-3 major decision over Kody Curry at 145 before Buc teammate David Franta edged Zack Gleiter, 9-5, during 152-pound action.

Class A, No. 5-ranked 160-pounder Carter Hanson recorded a technical fall in 4:36 over Carlos Marquez to keep the points rolling in Blue Earth Area's direction before the Bucs' Gus Phillips earned a technical fall in 2:30 over Colin Hoppe at 170.

Ryan Westman countered for the Saints by netting a 12-2 major decision over Chris Ramos at 182 before the Bucs' Kysten Zierke downed Devin Wolle by a 7-2 decision at 195.

Blue Earth Area (18-4, 4-0 SCC) plays host to Maple River and Windom Area in a triangular at 6 p.m. Monday in Blue Earth.

The Bucs close out the SCC dual-meet campaign by playing host to New Ulm on Friday, Feb. 1.
