B.E. Area grapplers 3-1 at Park Duals

COTTAGE GROVE - Blue Earth Area's David Franta and Carter Hanson each earned individual championships to power the Buc wrestling team to a 3-1 record during the Park Wolfpack Duals on Saturday in Cottage Grove.

Blue Earth Area opened the team competition with a 37-34 victory over Tartan before Cannon Falls edged the Bucs during second-round action, 39-30.

Blue Earth Area bounced back with a 42-33 triumph over host Park before flattening Stillwater in the final round, 49-15.

Franta posted a perfect 4-0 record to capture the crown at 160 pounds. Franta earned a major decision, one technical fall and two falls to strike gold.

Hanson, who's ranked No. 8 at 170 pounds in Class A, produced one major decision, one technical fall and one pin to pace a flawless 4-0 mark at 170.

Blue Earth Area wrestlers Alec Huber, Luke Schavey, Gus Phillips, Chris Ramos and Kysten Zierke each compiled 3-1 records on the tournament.

Huber earned two of his three victories via fall at 126 pounds, while Schavey chalked up one major decision and one fall during 152-pound action.

Phillips, who holds the No. 9 spot in the Class A 160-pound rankings, netted a major decision to pace his three victories at 182. Tartan's T.J. O'Hara, the No. 1-ranked 170-pounder in Class 3A, prevented Phillips from going undefeated by downing the Buc junior via an 11-3 major decision.

Ramos chalked up one fall during 195-pound action, while Zierke - who's ranked No. 7 at 195 pounds - produced two falls in the 220-pound bracket.

Blue Earth Area heavyweight Martin Granados, who holds the No. 10 spot in Class A, generated two falls to pace a 2-1 record on the event.

Mike Ankeny recorded two falls in four matches at 138 for the Bucs, while teammate Jordan Stelter earned a fall during 132-pound action.

Blue Earth Area returns to action at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, when it squares off against Le Sueur-Henderson and New Prague in a triangular in New Prague.

Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther 48, St. Clair/Mankato Loyola 25 (Friday) - The Jayhawks earned five falls to help pin a 48-25 Valley Conference dual-meet loss on the Cyclones on Friday night in St. Clair.

Cole Pietsch, Grant Koehler and Jeramiah Colon reeled off three consecutive falls at 106, 113 and 120 pounds, respectively, to build an early 18-0 lead for MTML.

Pietsch downed Garrison Pfeffer in 1:05, Koehler pinned Dylan Rasmussen in 3:33, while Colon earned the slap of the canvas over Diego Vandenbosch in 52 seconds.

Class A, No. 1-ranked 160-pounder Adam Cooling delivered a fall over Jordan Schmitz in 1:36 at 160 to add six more points to the Jayhawks' team total.

Jake Denn completed MTML's falls by downing Nico Gronewold in 1:49 at 182.

Isaac Pfeffer (126) and Bryon Forstner (138) each received forfeits for the Jayhawks, while MTML heavyweight Christian Escobar received an injury default at 285.
