Only one ‘marriage’

Re: This is a civil matter.

The writer indicates that marriage is a "civil right" and wonders why the Church is so much against "same sex marriage."

Evidently, this person has not read the Bible, for if she would have, she would know that long before civil rights, long before there was a state of Minnesota and long before there were such things as marriage licenses, God established that marriage is between one man and one woman.

Please note what it says in Genesis 2:22-24: "Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, 'This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man.' For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh."

This is the reason the Church is upset over "same sex marriage," which in reality there cannot possibly be, because it does not fit the definition of marriage established by God.

One of the important things to note is that a man and woman, when married, become "one flesh." It is important to know that two persons of the same sex cannot become one flesh. Those who believe God has spoken to us truthfully in the Bible should not concede that the committed, lifelong partnership and sexual relations of two men or two women is marriage. It isn't. God has created and defined marriage. There is no other definition. Period.

The writer does not understand our Constitution. Our founding fathers put in the Constitution protection for the Church, in that there cannot be a state-governed church. That is what the separation of church and state means. It has nothing to do with the marriage of one man and one women. Once again, marriage is not a civil right.

I urge everyone to go to and check out the information there that will help you to understand that there cannot be any such thing as "same sex marriage." I also urge everyone who believes the Bible and claims to be a Christian to vote yes on the marriage amendment on Nov. 6.
