ARMSTRONG, Iowa - Services for James E. Kennedy, 80, of Armstrong, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Armstrong, with Father Sunny Dominic celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Armstrong, with military graveside rites by Armstrong Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel, Armstrong There also will be a vigil prayer service 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

James Edward Kennedy, the son of Dennis Edward and Mary (Charnecki) Kennedy was born April 9, 1932, in East Chain, Minn. Jim departed this life on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Wellstead of Rogers in Rogers, Minn., at the age of 80.

He received his education in the Seneca schools, graduating from Seneca High School in 1950. Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

On Aug. 10, 1957, he was united in marriage to Janice Buckmeier. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in rural Armstrong. For hobbies, Jim enjoyed dancing, fishing, watching sports and most important was spending time with his family and friends. Jim had a great sense of humor.

Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, KCs, Holy Name Society and the Armstrong VFW. He also was a past 4-H leader.

Left to cherish Jim's memory are his wife of 55 years, Janice; 105-year-old mother, Mary Kennedy of Fairmont; children, Julia Nelson and her husband, Gary of Lake Mills, Iowa; John Kennedy and his wife, Susan of Lino Lakes, Minn.; Joanne Bean and her husband, Kevin of Lake City, Iowa; Joe Kennedy and his wife, Krista of Sartell, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Lisa and Taylor Nelson; Michael and Matthew Kennedy; Justin and Megan Bean; Kilah and Collin Kennedy; siblings, Mary Kahler and her husband, Albert; Dennis Kennedy and his wife, Katie and Nancy Thilges and her husband, Ken

Preceding Jim in death is his father.
