Would Democrats put any limits on access?

The Democratic leadership in Congress says the wall that President Trump wants is bad. So, what’s good?

Trump’s request for $5 billion for wall funding on the Southern border is a drop in the bucket in terms of the $4 trillion federal budget. Democrats nevertheless believe denying Trump his goal is worth keeping the federal government shut down. It’s not. They should relent.

But beyond the current standoff, what do Democrats want to see at the border. Are they OK with the Border Patrol? With existing walls and fencing? Are they OK with U.S. national sovereignty? Or do they want something else?

In case you are not aware of it, many of them do want something else: open borders. They believe the United States has a responsibility to take in the desperate and downtrodden, no matter what the consequences in this country.

But someone should ask them: How many? Would there be any limit? 10,000? 100,000? 1 million?

Sensible U.S. immigration policy would create some clarity on this issue. Sensible Democrats and Republicans should be able to work together and find solutions to secure the border, deal with illegal immigrants (and their children) and to set reasonable limits on the influx of asylum-seekers.

Republicans do not oppose legal immigration. The problem is that Democrats do not oppose illegal immigration.
