In response to storm, many show great spirit

A?violent windstorm blew through the area on Monday, snapping trees and causing other damage. People are still cleaning up. But there has been a lot of hard work and good will already in the wake of the storm.

Sherburn was among the towns that really got blasted. The town was a mess, with trees down everywhere, including in many streets. City crews responded quickly, but they were not alone. Average citizens got busy, doing what they could to help neighbors and non-neighbors alike.

There is property damage around the area, and friends and family are doing what they can to help others save on repair costs. Also, on the professional side of things, insurance adjusters are out in full force, as are plumbers, roofers, tree-trimmers, carpenters, and those working for siding firms and natural gas companies, just to name a few. Police and firefighters did their part on the day of the storm.

We say kudos to all for their time, effort and commitment. Some of the cleanup is still under way and will take more time. More repair work will follow. But things will get back to normal for those who have suffered through the storm.

As for the bigger picture, it is our understanding that there were no storm-related deaths or even serious injuries. That is a blessing to remember even as a lot of hard work continues.
