Nothing ‘practical’ about what Obama is proposing

More and more of what Americans work hard to produce is being taken out of our pockets and sent to Washington. Runaway government growth means higher taxes for us and a collossal national debt to be paid off by our children and grandchildren.

President Barack Obama wants to continue the trend of bigger government at the expense of those of us who must pay for it. He has proposed a record $4 trillion in federal spending during the coming fiscal year.

Members of Congress should bear a few statistics in mind when debating the president’s proposal:

o Obama wants to increase spending by 6.4 percent, compared to the current year.

o The nation’s gross domestic product – the total value of all goods and services produced by Americans – went up just 2.4 percent last year.

o Personal income – the amount we were paid for producing all those goods and services – increased just 4.3 percent last year.

o Ten years ago, during fiscal 2006, the federal government managed to get by with $2.65 trillion in spending.

o Obama wants to fund the increase partly with higher taxes and partly by adding $474 billion to the $18.1 trillion national debt.

In sending his budget to Capitol Hill, Obama described the spending plan as “practical.” Really?
