Consider a donation

To the Editor:

Fairmont Community Hospital Foundation became its own organization when Mayo Clinic Health System gained ownership of the Fairmont hospital.

The Foundation’s board of directors chose to separate to ensure that all the money brought in through the community would stay in the community, at the local hospital. And today, that still holds true. All monetary donations given to FCH Foundation are held in support of the local hospital. Whether the money is designated toward a specific item or a general donation, all the money stays in Fairmont to support the Fairmont hospital.

FCH Foundation invites you to participate in its annual appeal. This year, donations will be going toward the purchase of a saphenous vein ablation laser. It is designed to treat varicose veins of the leg. Varicose veins are the enlarged, twisted “ropes” that seem to bulge out under the skin. It also will treat spider veins, which are smaller veins that have become abnormally enlarged. Spider veins come out onto the visible skin level in one spot, and then spread out with a number of “legs” that resemble a spider. For some, spider veins are simply a cosmetic concern. For other people, varicose veins can cause aching pain and discomfort and sometimes lead to more serious problems such as leg ulcers.

Bringing this piece of equipment to the Fairmont hospital will broaden the scope of practice for general surgery and allow providers to treat many symptomatic patients with varicose vein disease who otherwise must travel long distances to obtain care. To obtain the saphenous vein ablation laser, FCH Foundation needs to raise $64,000.

Your support will be directed toward the purchase of the dedicated laser and will be used at the Fairmont hospital. To offer support, mail in your donation to FCH Foundation P.O. Box 826, Fairmont, MN 56031 or you can go online and donate through our website at www.fchfoundation.com
