Norbert E. Hines

FAIRMONT — Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert E. Hines, age 95, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222. Inurnment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Norbert passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society in St. James, Minn. Memorials are preferred to the SJV Endowment Fund, Knights of Columbus and Martin County Conservation Club. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Norbert Edward Hines was born June 6, 1926, in Pleasant Prairie Township, Martin County, Minn., to Edward and Isabelle (Cronin) Hines. He received his education from Fairmont Public Schools. Norbert served in the U.S. Navy on USS Fillmore from April 26, 1944 until being honorably discharged on April 17, 1947. On Oct. 18, 1950, Norbert was united in marriage to Betty Marcella Holz at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Fairmont. He worked at Railway Motors as a machinist and later as an inspector for many years, until retiring on June 6, 1991. Norbert was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36, Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222, Knights of Columbus, Martin County Conservation Club, and NRA. He loved fishing, hunting and visiting with friends and family. Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Pamela (Paul) Craven of Elk River, Minn., Randall (Rhonda) Hines of Fairmont, Minn., and Lisa Hines of Rochester, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Simon of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; sister-in-law, Joyce Hines of San Diego, Calif.; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Isabelle Hines; wife, Betty Hines; daughters, Nannette Flores and Kimberly Hines; son, Gregory Hines; granddaughter, Shannon Flores; great-granddaughter, Samantha Joy Craven; brothers, Cyril Hines and George Hines; sister, Loretta Novak; additional brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and parents-in-law, Charles and Lena Holz. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
