Phyllis M. Evans
ARMSTRONG — Phyllis M. Evans passed away Sunday, Aug. 22,
2021, at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa, at the age of
94 years. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug.
25, 2021, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, Iowa, with
Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at
Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. She will be laid to rest at Armstrong Grove Cemetery,
rural
Armstrong, Iowa.
Phyllis Marie Evans was born April 16, 1927, in Fairmont, Minn.,
daughter of Gustav and Frances (Simon) Krueger. Phyllis attended
and graduated from Ceylon High School before teaching school in a one-room schoolhouse
northeast of Armstrong. On Sept. 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Laurence Evans in
Ceylon. She worked her entire life side by side farming with her husband, Laurence. She
raised six children on the farm west of Armstrong until 1987 when
they retired and moved to Armstrong. Raising her children and
working on the farm were her interests along with dedicating her life to serving the church in
many capacities. She was a member of
Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. Left to cherish Phyllis’
memory are her children, Mary (Roger) Tirevold of Armstrong, Janet (Dwight) Isaacson of Mason
City, Lee Evans of Armstrong, and Carol (Greg) Sukalski of Fairmont, Minn.; adopted daughter,
Diane Klute of Brookings, S.D.; 12 grandchildren, Dustin (Holly) Tirevold, Nathan
Tirevold, Ashley (Adam) Fries, Tylor Evans, Brandon (Nora) Evans,
Brady Evans, Logan (Vlad) Askenov, Tyler (Jess) Isaacson, Lindsey
Isaacson, Sharon (Mike) Hooge, Katrina (Chris) Thiel, Trey (Brittany) Sukalski; 24 greatgrandchildren;
brothers and sisters, Elaine
Ashpole of Le Seuer, Minn., June LaVigne of Norwalk, Iowa, Dr. Ken
(Pat) Krueger of Ripon, Calif.; sister-in-law, Doris Norman of North
Branch, Minn.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was
preceded in death by her husband, Laurence; her daughter, Marsha;
son, Larry; grandson, Ryan; her parents, Gustav and Frances (Simon) Krueger; brother, Herbert;
brother-in-law, Ken Ashpole; in-laws, Tom and Joyce Putney, Lillian and Jerry Mullowrey, and
David Norman.
