Marilyn J. Oberle

FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Marilyn J. Oberle, 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, with burial following the service in Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont.

Marilyn passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marilyn Jeanne (Nichols) Oberle was born Sept. 7, 1932, at Minneapolis General Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Earl and Helen (Lilja) Nichols. She grew up in Minneapolis and attended Minneapolis Central High School until moving to Fairmont for her senior year and graduating with the class of 1950. Marilyn worked for a short time in a doctor’s office and on Aug. 4, 1951, was united in marriage to Robert Oberle. Shortly after their marriage, Marilyn and Robert moved to Biloxi, Miss. prior to Robert being sent overseas to serve during the Korean War. While Robert served in the military, Marilyn worked for a short time in research at the University of Minnesota before returning to Fairmont where Marilyn worked for many years at First National Bank in Fairmont. Marilyn was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She also enjoyed following golf and in her later years, enjoyed following the current news and events. Marilyn was an accomplished cook and loved a good bakery. Throughout the years, Marilyn treasured the memories made with family on trips to Hawaii, Mexico, New York, along with various cruises. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, and served on St. Michael’s Circle. Marilyn will be greatly missed by those that loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeanne (Mark) Atkinson of Fairmont, Minn., Kathryn Eke of Blaine, Minn., Dianne (Steve Able) Matter of Chicago, Ill., and Steven Oberle of Burnsville, Minn.; grandchildren, Meghan Atkinson (Frank), Dylan Atkinson (Carrie), Lindsay (Rick) Penfield, and Kaitie Eke; great-grandchildren, Madden Penfield, Ryann Penfield, Quinn Penfield, Reese Peters, and Kylah Atkinson; brother, John (Judy) Nichols; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Helen Nichols; son, Mark Oberle; sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and L.V. Morgan, and Robert Oberle.
