Vernon E. Nelson

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Vernon E. Nelson of Apache Junction, Ariz., formerly of Fairmont, Minn., passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his home in Arizona. A memorial service for him will be held Friday, May 7, 2021, in Apache Junction.

Vernon Eugene Nelson was born June 18 1930, in Truman, Minn., to Olaf and Lydia Nelson. He grew up on the family farm, attended District 121 country school, and graduated from Truman High School in 1948. He was united in marriage to Patricia Lee Anderson on June 18, 1950. Vern and Pat raised their five children and made their home in Fairmont where Vern was employed at Railway Motors for 40 years. In 1993, the couple moved to Apache Junction, Ariz., where they resided together until Pat’s death in 2011. Vern was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved playing cards and was a master bridge player. Vernon is survived by his children, Scott (Kathy) Nelson of Fairmont, Debra Nelson of Mesa, Ariz., Kurt Nelson of Reno, Nev., Kerry Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Garrigan of Sioux City, Iowa, and Andrew (Jamie) Nelson of Fairmont; four great-grandchildren, Brok Garrigan, Sydney Garrigan, Noah Nelson and Grace Nelson; sister, Mary Ann Potter of Trimont, Minn.; and brother, Gary Nelson of Las Vegas Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; daughter, Cynthia; infant son, Keith; brother, Owen Nelson; and brother-in-law, Jack Potter.
