FAIRMONT — A funeral service for Donna M. Hansgaard, 87, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. The family asks that people are mindful of social distancing guidelines, wearing of masks and best practices in helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The number of people in attendance will be monitored.
Donna passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 24, 2021, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. In lieu of memorials, please take the time to reach out to your isolated loved ones during this COVID-19 pandemic. Donna Marie (Morgan) Hansgaard was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Blue Earth, Minn., to Peter and Mildred (Udy) Morgan. She graduated from Frost High School in 1953. On Oct. 4, 1953, Donna was united in marriage to Donald Hansgaard in Fairmont, Minn. This marriage was blessed with four children, Carolyn, Doug, Mitch and Dawn. They lived in Fairmont and surrounding areas while Don relocated for work. After his passing, Donna enjoyed traveling and lived in various states. She was often referred to as “Highway Mama/Grandma.” She knew every road to everywhere. Donna was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW for many years. She was also a member of United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Donna enjoyed traveling throughout her life and loved to experience the changing sceneries and landscapes. She loved camping, fishing and cooking meals for her family. She always kept a clean, tidy, organized house and you could always find her doing dishes throughout the day by hand. Donna was an avid thrifter and garage sale go-er. She was often the first one out of the car to find the best deal. Family time, laughs and Diet Coke made her day. Her light-hearted nature drew people to her. Those left to cherish her memory include her four children, Carolyn Hansgaard of Wallingford, Iowa, Doug (Jane) Hansgaard of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Mitch Hansgaard of Estherville, Iowa, and Dawn (Larry) Petrowiak of Fairmont, Minn.; grandchildren, Eric Hansgaard of Loveland, Colo., Jason (Alicia) Hansgaard of Mesa, Ariz., Mike (Toni) Hansgaard of Corpus Christi, Texas, Wyatt (Nicole) Hansgaard of Phoenix, Ariz., Heather (Jeremy Redinius) Hansgaard of Wallingford, Iowa, Celia Petrowiak of Fairmont, Maria Hansgaard of Wallingford, Iowa, Macy (fiancé, Chris Kahler) Petrowiak of Sherburn, Minn., and Holly Petrowiak of Fairmont; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geri Peterson of Truman, Minn., and Gloria Adams of Fairmont; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Donald Wesley Hansgaard; her sister, Marvel Johnson; and her parents, Peter and Mildred Morgan. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
