Peggy was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Faribault County, Minn., to Iva and Frank Dray. She grew up in Blue Earth and graduated high school in 1949. She met Roger Ellis at Ankeny’s Roller Rink, they married and started a family of seven children, being a stay-at-home mom. She was a very active member of Hope First United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, sewed quilts, and made rugs with the Ladies Circle, and helped wherever she was needed and able. She was always ready to lend a helping hand or volunteer one or more of her children. She was involved with Eastern Star and held the office of Grand Matron, and Grand Representative to Vermont in the State Eastern Star. She was active with her daughters’ involvement in Job’s Daughters of Bethel No. 82 of Blue Earth. Over the years she had worked several places such as Wolf’s Department Store, Green Giant, Adolphson’s which was sold and became Mensing’s, and The Clothes Line. Peggy enjoyed roller skating, golf, crafts, knitting, crocheting, hardanger, quilt making, flower gardening and wood carving. She also loved square dancing with Roger. Sewing was excessively big in her life as she always sewed us matching outfits for Easter complete with Easter bonnets, white gloves and patent leather shoes that had to be shined with Vaseline. Dad and the boys would get matching shirts. Matching dresses for the girls at Christmas along with matching homemade pajamas. She even made all our doll clothes. They made us popular for birthday parties as we would bring doll outfits as birthday gifts. She was always dressed to the nines. Everything had to match: dress, shoes, jacket, purse, jewelry and lipstick. Left to cherish such wonderful memories are her children, Kayla Kuhlman (Jerry) of Bloomington, John Ellis (Ruthanne) of Armstrong, Iowa, Kathleen Peterson (Tim) of Fairmont, Minn., Colleen Boran (Jerry) of Forest City, Iowa, Susan Ellis (Ray Milligan) of Lake Vermilion/Soudan, Minn., Robert Ellis (Michelle)of Wyoming, Minn., Christine Manno of Chanhassen, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine More of Arkansas, and Mona Johnson of Kodiak Alaska. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Ellis; her sisters, Maureen Sohn and Grace Miller; great-grandchild, Kylie Marie Thoren; and son-in-law, Michael Manno.
