David A. Ehlers

FAIRMONT — A public visitation for David A. Ehlers, age 72, of Fairmont, Minn., will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Please be mindful of social distancing guidelines, wear masks, and use best practices in helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The number of people in attendance will be monitored.

David passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at his home in Fairmont. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in David’s name to the donor’s choice. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

David Alan Ehlers was born April 17, 1948, in Estherville, Iowa, to Pete and Katherine (Petersen) Ehlers. He graduated from Ringsted High School in 1967, and joined the U.S. Air Force. In January of 1968, he graduated from basic training and served until November of 1971. While in the Air Force, David served in Korea and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, S.D. David continued his education by attending vocational school in Mankato.

David was united in marriage to Ardell Brosh on Sept. 30, 1972, in Mankato, Minn. They were blessed with two sons, Chad and Adam. They lived in Mankato until 1981 when they moved to Fairmont and have resided there ever since. David worked at Year-Round Cab in Mankato, and in 1980, he took a job with Weigh-Tronix in Fairmont where he was a manufacturing engineer and worked there until retiring in 2018. David loved working with wood and spent many hours in his shop. He enjoyed birdwatching, Sudoku puzzles, fishing, and hunting. For many, many years David did the lights for plays at the Opera House in Fairmont for Civic Summer Theatre. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren, Brandon and Morgan. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ardell Ehlers of Fairmont; sons, Chad Ehlers of Fairmont, and Adam (Michelle) Ehlers of Fairmont; grandchildren, Brandon and Morgan Ehlers of Fairmont; brother, Richard Ehlers of Iowa Falls, Iowa; sisters, Evelyn (Arlis) Lutch of Jackson, Karen (Tom) Bannor of Wallingford, Iowa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Trudy Ehlers of Lakefield, Milly (Ron) Fever of Estherville, Iowa, Marilyn Baas of Minneapolis, Sally (Donald) Appel of Aitkin, Thelma Tiessen of McGregor, Dennis Brosh of Estherville, Iowa, Ivan Brosh of Estherville, Ella Brosh of Milford, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Katherine Ehlers; brother, Robert Ehlers; niece, Peggy Brosh; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Vernon Brosh, Clayton (Beaner) Brosh, Thora Grostad and Edith Brosh. www.lakeviewfuneralhome.net
