Evelyn was born April 14, 1929, in Kossuth County, Iowa, to Fredrick and Lydia Swan. She grew up on a farm near Gruver, Iowa, and following graduation from Estherville (IA) High School, she attended Estherville Junior College. In 1970, Henry quit farming and they moved the family to Fairmont, Minn. “Evy” was well-known for being the friendliest and most efficient clerk at the cash register in groceries stores in Fairmont for many years, for her delicious coffee cakes, making beautiful quilts, and nurturing a fabulous garden. She also loved feeding and watching the birds from her kitchen window. Evelyn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, and Journey Lutheran Church in Onalaska, Wis. Evelyn is survived by sons, Charles (Linda) of Onalaska, Wis., Edward (Debra) of Union, Ky., Wilfred (Joyce) of Round Rock, Texas; daughter, Brenda (Dan) Rooney of Onalaska, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; and one son, Jon R. Schauberger. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Bethany Riverside, Prairie Home and Dr. David Momont. Donations may be made to Journey Lutheran Church, Gundersen Medical Foundation, or the charity of the giver’s choice.
