Gary J. Williams

WELCOME — Gary John Williams, 78, of Welcome, Minn., passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at Mayo Clinic-St. Mary’s campus in Rochester, Minn. Gary was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Welcome, Minn., the son of Kenneth and Verna (Schmidt) Williams. He attended Welcome School, graduating in 1959. On Aug. 7, 1959, Gary Williams married Marsha Hunt in Estherville, Iowa, and they made their home in Fairmont and then Welcome. They were blessed with four children: Danny, Connie, Vicki and Kristine. Gary worked for Clark’s Filling Station, Welcome Creamery, Schultz Whole Cow Meats, American Western, Ag Chem and Agco, retiring from Agco in 2006. He was president and board member of the Fox Lake Conservation Club, board member of the Welcome Historical Society, member of the Welcome Jaycees, member of the Welcome Fire Department, and member of the Sons of the American Legion. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gary is survived by his wife, Marsha; children, Connie (Mike) Scheff, Vicki (Gary) Nelsen, Kris (Jamie) Pendergast; grandchildren, Paul (Nicole) Scheff, Kent (Jen) Scheff, Luke (Rachel) Scheff, Stephanie (Ryan) Cairney, Nichole (Tyler) Ayers, Danielle (Justin) Portz, Jon (Leah) Mussmann, Amber (Zack) King, Grace Pendergast; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Chuck (Mary) Williams, Brad (Connie) Williams, Todd Williams; daughter-in-law, Tammy Williams; sister-in-law, Mary Margret Williams; half-brother-in-law, Kevin (Raelene) Eckmann of Tenn.; half-brother-in-law, Jim (Marlene) Hunt of Ill.; step sister-in-law, Pam (Jim) Kinsey of Calif; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son; father; mother; brother; grandparents; mother-in-law; father-in-law; step mother-in-law; step father-in-law; step sister-in-law; other relatives and friends.
