CEYLON — A public graveside service for Clair E. Schmidt Sr., 82, of Ceylon, Minnesota, will be 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2020, at Lake Belt Cemetery, in rural Ceylon, Minnesota.

Visitation with Clair’s family will be from 2-3 p.m. Friday at the cemetery. Family and friends are asked to bring their own lawn chairs for the service.

Clair died on Saturday morning, September 19, 2020 at Living Meadows in Madelia, Minnesota.

Clair Edward Schmidt was born on July 24, 1938 to Edward and Alma (Schley) Schmidt on the farm in Lake Belt Township, rural Ceylon, Minnesota. He attended country school in Lake Belt Township and later graduated from Ceylon High School with the class of 1956.

He farmed in the Ceylon area and also drove truck for various trucking companies in the area.

On June 4, 1958, he entered the United States Army and served faithfully until his honorable discharge on March 4, 1960.

Clair enjoyed playing billiards and watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

He is survived by his three sons, Clair Jr. (Joanne) Schmidt of rural Ceylon, Minnesota, Kevin (Angie) Schmidt of rural Dunnell, Minnesota, Mark (Jody) Schmidt of Becker, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Andrew and Brad Schmidt, Hunter Schmidt, Tyler and Lindsey Schmidt; sister, Delores Houseman of Ceylon, Minnesota; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Clair was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alma Schmidt; sister, Carol and her husband, Kenneth Olson; brother-in-law, Alfred Klug and other relatives.
