Thomas L. Larson

LELAND — Thomas Lew Larson was born Sept. 19, 1947, in Rake, Iowa, son of Thorald and Joyce (Johnson) Larson. He grew up in Rake graduating from Rake High School in 1965.

In 1965, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1969.

Following the army, he worked a few years for Winnebago Manufacturing, a body shop in Blue Earth, Minn., and was a custodian at the Rake school until they closed.

On April 28, 1972, he was united in marriage to Margaret (Meyer) Langford. They were blessed with two daughters, Lori and Suzanne. They were later divorced.

Tom had a variety of beloved hobbies. He was a car enthusiast, specifically Dodge automobiles, and was currently restoring a ’68 Dodge Barracuda. He would relax by watching a good movie, westerns and action films being particular favorites; or playing a game pool with friends. Tom spent time enjoying the outdoors as well, either hunting or target practice shooting.

For his family, he was the best example of a wonderful father and grandfather. He emphasized to them how proud he was of his Norwegian heritage by continuing to speak the native language and cooking excellent Norwegian food. Tom also cherished his beloved dogs; Skeeter, Sunny and Hercules.

Tom died Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at his home in Leland. He was 72.

Tom is survived by his daughters, Lori (Bryan) Kastning of Fairmont, Minn., Suzanne (Eric) Smith of Fairmont; two grandsons, Alex Kastning (14) and Jacob Kastning (12); his siblings, Kitty Landess of Euless, Texas, Reggie (Marge) Larson of Lake Crystal, Minn., Tim (Ann) Larson of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister-in-law, Arlene Larson of Mankato, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings, Duane (Marge) Larson, Larry Larson, Nancee (Irwin) Andresen; sister-in-law, Barbara Larson; brother-in-law, Richard Landess; niece, Beth Andresen; nephew, Peter Larson.
