FAIRMONT — A service of remembrance for Thomas “Tom” A. Alsworth, 67, of Roseville, formerly of Fairmont and rural Sherburn, Minn., will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at Assembly of God Regional Worship Center church in Sherburn, with visitation from 9-10 a.m. Due to current COVID -19 restrictions, guests will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing guidelines. A 50 percent indoor occupancy restriction will be maintained.

Tom passed away from natural causes Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020, at his home in Roseville, Minn.

Thomas Allan Alsworth was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Fairmont, Minn., to Lloyd and Evelyn (Johnson) Alsworth. He was baptized and later confirmed at First Congregational Church in Fairmont. He received his education in Fairmont, graduating with the class of 1971. He then attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota Agricultural School in St. Paul. He was employed at the Flying Cloud Airport over the summers during his college years.

After college, he worked in the flax division of Kimberly Clark Company in Windom, Minn. During this time, he lived at a cabin owned by the Alsworth Family on Fox Lake near Sherburn. In 1985, Kimberly Clark opened an office in Grand Forks, N.D., where Tom transferred. There he continued his position with the company, traveling to its office in Winkler, MB, Canada, and various mini-mill locations around the area. He was the company pilot as well as quality control and safety coordinator.

On April 22, 1989, he was united in marriage to Roberta Waldner in Morden, MB, in Canada. After their marriage, they lived in Grand Forks until 1990, when they moved to the Alsworth family farm in rural Sherburn. There Tom farmed the land until he retired in 2018, when he moved to Roseville, Minn.

Tom was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont.

He enjoyed the opera, attending plays, camping with his family, going to museums, zoos and loved to travel. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spent many hours over the years doing jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, of Fairmont, Minn.; his three children, Reid (Stephanie) of Eau Claire, Wis., Elizabeth (Douglas) of rural Sherburn, Minn., and Andrew of Thief River Falls, Minn.; one grandson, Calvin; two sisters, Julie (Scott) of Plymouth, Minn., and Kate (Tom) of Fairmont, Minn.; mother-in-law; sisters and brothers-in-law in Canada, Susie, Emma, Lydia, William (Miriam), Lena (Ike), Betty (Ernie), Johanna, Rose (Lee), Lorene (Rick), Ronald, Nettie, Lorraine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Evelyn; brothers, Gene, Richard, Bruce and Jim; father-in-law, Jacob; brothers-in-law, Edward, Hardy, and Timothy; and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family prefers memorial to Martin County Historical Society or the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame.
