Kathryn was born Oct. 15, 1914, in Rolling Green Township, Martin County, Minn., the daughter of Joseph and Johanna (Heckle) Bulfer. She was the second of 11 children. She attended St. Paul’s Catholic School and three years at the Fairmont High School and then attended the University of Minnesota Ag School in 1934 and graduated in 1936. There she met her future husband, Raymond Crowley. They were married on April 29, 1937, in Fairmont.

After their marriage, they lived on a farm in Iona Twp., Murray Co, Minn., where she gave birth to eight children: five boys and three girls.

Kathryn started in 4-H at the age of 10. She and her sister, Dorothy, went to the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933, displaying bread baking. She started taking piano lessons at age 7. Piano was a big part of her life and she played up until the last year of her life. Kathryn had many interests, including rug-making, gardening and being outdoors. Her 40 years in Extension Club included three terms as president. She won many prizes for her cooking, especially pie making, which she passed on to her daughters and granddaughters. Her wisdom, kindness and unending love toward her eight children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be missed.

Survivors include seven children, Francis (Rosa) Crowley of St. Paul, Minn., Joanne (Tony) Mussi of Phoenix, Ariz., Ellen (Ken) Anderson of Foley, Minn., Bob (Lee) Crowley of Iona, Minn., Bill (Terry) Crowley of Iona, Colette (John) Struthers of Hazelton, Idaho, Ron (Sharon) Crowley of Spirit Lake, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Pat Crowley of Pine River, Minn.; 28 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Lenort of Fairmont, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Eunice Bulfer and Fern Bulfer.
