AUBURN, Wash. — Eldon Louis Tietje of Auburn, Wash., passed away Sunday morning, May 31, 2020, at Valley Medical Center in Renton, Wash. Memorial services will be held at a later date due to COVID-19 guidelines.

Eldon Louis Tietje was born June 18, 1934, on the family farm in Fairmont, Minn., to Ewald and Millie (Fritz) Tietje. He was baptized and attended school at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Fairmont. As a young man, he worked as a farmhand. In December of 1951, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict, where he was wounded in July 1953. He received the Purple Heart, and was discharged in 1954.

In March of 1955, Eldon was united in marriage to Janice Benck in Fairmont, Minn. Together, they were blessed with four children, and married for 65 years.

They moved to Seattle, Wash., in 1957, where he worked driving truck for Majorette Macaroni and remodeling homes. Eldon and Jan moved back to Fairmont in 1967 and farmed until 1985. They then moved to Auburn, Wash., where he worked for Freshmark Foods until he retired in 2004.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife Janice; daughter, Brenda Aday of Auburn, Wash.; son, Russ and his wife, Sue of Issaquah, Wash.; grandchildren, Bryce (Noelle) Porter, Lucas Porter, Larry Drayfahl, Matt (Megan) Johnson, Kenndra (Jim) Ricard, Kyle and Kalin Osmundson, Chad (Ashley) Tietje, Cody (Erika) Tietje; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Ewald and Millie, Eldon was preceded in death by daughters, Lori (infant) and Cathy Osmundson; brother, Vernon Tietje; and sister, Evelyn Runge.
