On April 24, 1982, Katie Elizabeth Cyphers no doubt came into this world sharing her charismatic personality and infectious laugh with her proud parents Eddy and Julie and lifelong best friend and brother Lucas. In her school years Katie shined on the basketball court, where her love of the game could be seen, as well as some of her sweet dance moves. She graduated with the Fairmont High school class of 2001. Trips up north with her family were the highlight of Katie’s summers. Campfires, cocktails and Katie’s wisdom were never in short supply. Katie made friends with the greatest of ease. Her charm and zest for life drew people in and once they knew her, they would be friends forever. That charm surely played a role in her finding and falling in love with Adam Poppe; soon after, Katie and Adam welcomed into this world their daughter, Faith Anne. On May 28, 2005, they were married and made their home in Welcome, Minn.,, where they then added another blessing with daughter, Tyler Elizabeth. Faith and Tyler were Katie’s entire world. She was so proud of the beautiful young women they are and was always so happy to share Faith’s wonderful artwork or one of Tyler’s hilarious one-liners. We will always have a piece of her through them. Katie treasured the friendships made while working at the Fairmont Liquor Store and formerly at the Martin County Courthouse. Her friends and family that meant the world to her will forever miss the energy that arrived when Katie was present. To know Katie was to love her. She was a vibrant light in darkness. She spoke truthfully, laughed uncontained, and loved fiercely.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Faith Poppe and Tyler Poppe, both of Northrop; parents, Julie and Earl Ricard of Northrop, and Eddy Cyphers of Choteau, Mont.; brother, Lucas (Sara) Cyphers of Fairmont; sister, Michalia Cyphers of Truman; nephew, Gage Cyphers of Fairmont; maternal grandmother, Irene Baumgart of Fairmont; step siblings, Aaron Traver of Ariz., Tabitha Jeffries of Mankato, and Helena Zea of Mankato; father of her daughters, Adam Poppe of Ceylon; special friend, Ben Austin of Granada; many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends. She will be greatly missed by her beloved fur babies, Storm and Casper. Katie is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Arnold Baumgart; paternal grandparents, Howard Cyphers and Elaine Cottew; and stepgrandparents, Dean and Marie Ricard. Katie’s death is an unexpected and great loss. The family encourages you to hold your loved ones tight and offer an ear to listen or a hug to comfort when needed; as you never know what the next day may hold. In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up at Profinium Bank in Fairmont, earmarked for expenses for her daughters.
