SHERBURN — A private-relative Mass of Christian Burial for Ignatius “Ig” P. Maday, 96, of rural Sherburn will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, with Father Jonathon Fasnacht as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, East Chain, Minn., with military honors by the Welcome American Legion Post 553 and Nassen-Detert American Legion Post 539.

Ignatius Peter Maday was born July 1, 1923, on the family farm in Silver Lake Township, rural Fairmont, Minn., to Peter and Stancy (Pilacynski) Maday. He received his education in East Chain schools. On Nov. 28, 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving until his honorable discharge on March 24, 1946.

On July 17, 1945, he was united in marriage to Betty Wiltse in Fairmont, Minn. After their marriage, they lived near East Chain until moving to rural Welcome. Ig farmed in Martin County for many years. They moved to their home on the south side of Fox Lake and later moved to Goldfinch in Fairmont until moving into Seasons Healthcare in Trimont.

Ig was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Fairmont VFW Post 1222, a lifetime member of Welcome American Legion Post 553, commander of Adj. Service Office, Sergeant of Arms of club board, commander of Martin County Council, St. Luke’s Knights of Columbus, Sherburn Lions, Duck’s Unlimited.

He greatly enjoyed going hunting, fishing, playing cards, golfing and helped Ernie Hand fishing.

He is survived by his son, Clarence “Butch” (Diane) Maday of rural Sherburn, Minn.; daughter, Diana Held of Idaho; four grandchildren, Brett (Kari) Maday and their son, Ethan of Colleyville, Texas, Heather (Bill) Kittridge of Otsego, Minn.; stepchildren, Willy Kittridge, Samantha Kittridge, Kelsea Schoer and son Liam and Preston Kittridge; Marcus (Julie) Maday of Eden Prairie, Minn., Steven (Jaime) Held and Mallory, Sophie and Bree of Bismarck, N.D.; sister, Adeline Simmons of Sherburn; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ig was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Peter and Stancy Maday; sister, Marge Sundberg; brother-in-law, Darrel Simmons; great-grandson, Michael Ignatius Held; and other relatives.

Ig was a farmer and producer of food, and in these times many people need extra help and therefore the family requests that any memorials be sent to Heaven’s Table, 909 Winnebago Ave., Fairmont, MN 56031.
