FAIRMONT — Memorial services for Janyce R. Christians, age 85, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont.

Janyce passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 16, 2020, at Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Janyce Rae (Swanson) Christians was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Waverly Township, Martin County, Minn., to George and Mildred (Peterson) Swanson. She graduated from Jackson High School.

After high school, Janyce attended Mankato Business College and went to work for Standard Oil Company in the Twin Cities.

On Dec. 7, 1957, Janyce was united in marriage to Lester Christians in Jackson, Minn. They made their home on a farm by Lakefield, Minn.

Janyce worked as a secretary at Okabena Schools for a few years. In 1962, Janyce and Lester moved to Fairmont. Janyce was a housewife and also worked at Stokley’s Van Camp and for the Star Tribune delivering newspapers.

Janyce and Lester loved traveling and always wintered from 1992 until 2013 in Mesa, Ariz.

Janyce was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont and helped make many banners for the church.

She was also a member of the Lake Promenaders. Janyce and Lester loved square-dancing and Janyce would make all of their square-dancing clothing. She loved collecting Dept. 56 village houses, walking, cross-stitching, sewing, reading and shopping.

She is survived by her sons, Kent (Marlys) Christians of Fairmont, and Todd Christians of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Laura (Matt) Douglas of Fairmont; brother, Jerome (Merva) Swanson of Cannon Falls; sister-in-law, Darlene Christians; nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Christians; parents, George and Mildred Swanson; parents-in-law, Harm and Berdell Christians; and brothers-in-law, Vernon Christians and Derald Christians.
