Helen Lucille (Cowing) Hardt was born on April 12, 1925, in Granada, MN, the daughter of Frank and Jesse (Snow) Cowing. As a young girl, Helen received her education attending country school and was passionate about reading. She had an appetite for learning, especially architecture, history, and adventures in all parts of the world.

On September 27, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to Vernon K. Hardt at Zion Lutheran Church in Galveston, TX. The couple would be blessed with 68 years of marriage prior to Vernon’s passing in 2011.

Helen and Vernon welcomed eight wonderful children into the world and Helen took on the task caring for her children and the family home. Family was extremely important to Helen and often said her children and grandchildren were the center of her world. Her quiet time was spent talking to her children, family and friends, reading, painting and sketching.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kenneth (Karol) Hardt, Suzanne (Rick) Stanits, Randal Hardt, Bradley (Marilyn) Hardt, Mark (Beverly) Hardt, James Hardt, Lori (David) Hyink, and Melanie Hardt; sixteen loving and devoted grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as many other extended family and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jesse Cowing; husband, Vernon Hardt; four sisters; two brothers; and her beloved dog, Skye.

The family is grateful to St. Paul Lutheran Church in its support of our mother over the years. We are also very grateful to Mayo Home Hospice and Baywood Home Staffing for the loving and professional support given to our mother and our family over these difficult months.
