MESA, Ariz. — Leona Bernice Lindberg, age 93, of Mesa, Ariz., went peacefully to heaven on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019. Leona is now united with her husband of 65 years, Delmar Lindberg, who passed away in 2010. She has moved on to a better place deserving of her love.

A celebration of Leona’s life will be held in January 2020 in Mesa. Cremation services were provided by Legacy Funeral Home in Chandler, Ariz. Leona will be laid to rest next spring in Anoka, Minn.

Leona was born March 6, 1926, in East Chain, Minn., the daughter of Albert and Frances (Mosloski) Sukalski. She grew up on the family farm with her seven siblings. She attended country school in East Chain.

On Oct. 8, 1944, she married Delmar Lindberg. They lived in Lakefield, Minn., for a few years, then moved to Fairmont, Minn. Leona was a full-time homemaker and worked at the corner drug store. She was an extraordinary seamstress who could do it all.

She loved playing card games, dancing and listening to music (still loved Lawrence Welk). Leona found great joy and satisfaction with family gatherings and dearly loved being a mother and grandmother.

In 1967, the family moved to New Hope, Minn. Leona worked many years as a waitress.

In the mid-70s, Del and Leona began spending their winters in Arizona. They enjoyed golf and the good times spent with their many friends. In 2016, Leona sold her home in New Hope and made her permanent home in Mesa.

Leona will be dearly missed by family that includes children, Ron (Jeanne) Lindberg of Fairmont, Minn., Vern (Maryrose) Lindberg of Mesa, Ariz., Kim (Paul) Eng of Maple Grove, Minn., Scott Lindberg of Mesa; grandchildren, Vaughn Lindberg, Courtney Porter, Angela Herrmann, Lindsey Eng, Stephanie Eng, Nathan Lindberg, Krista Lee; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brother, David (Virginia) Sukalski of East Chain; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Agnes (Felix) Lenort; brothers, Edmund (Betty) Sukalski, Joe (Leona) Sukalski, Roy Sukalski, Lewis (June) Sukalski; in-laws, Kenneth (Wilda) Lindberg and LeMar (Bonnie) Lindberg.
