Edwin Walter Fitzlaff was born Oct. 25, 1954, in Jackson, Minn., to Ernest and Lola (Carter) Fitzlaff. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1973, went on to work for the school there in the Maintenance and Custodial Department. He worked for a time at the turkey farm in Eden Valley as well as a kitchen staff member at Truman Senior Living.

In 1992, he married Carol Ziegler. To this union, two sons were born. He and Carol later divorced.

Since 2008, Ed has been employed full time as a special education driver for Truman Bus Service. Ed had a love for nature; cars, new and old; and for watching bull riding. He tried riding a few times, but figured out quickly that it’s much safer from behind the TV.

He was a kind and caring individual and would do anything for anyone needing help. He enjoyed the company of others, especially his friends and co-workers.

On Nov. 7, 2017, Ed was diagnosed with MCCL2, a rare form of leukemia. He fought a valiant fight.

He is survived by his sons, Gabriel and Adam Fitzlaff of Truman; his brother, Ernest (Phyllis) Fitzlaff of Springfield, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
