Louis Malcom Maday was born September 13, 1922, in Silver Lake Township, MN, the son of Joseph and Anna (Weber) Maday. Louis served in the United States Army – 17th Airborne from 1943 to 1946, where he was in the Battle of the Bulge and was a gliderman and paratrooper. He married Marvis McNerney on February 11, 1946 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Fairmont, MN. Together the couple lived in rural Granada and Guckeen where they farmed until retiring in 1989. Louis was a dairy farmer, grain farmer and also grew sugar beets. Louis lived at Ingleside in Fairmont for a short time and in March of 2018 he moved to Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, IA.

Louis was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Guckeen until it closed, then he became a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. He was also a member of the VFW Post #1222, American Legion Post #36, Knights of Columbus and the East Side Farm Club. Louis enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, watching the Game Show Network, collecting John Deere toy tractors, reading (especially farm magazines) and going for rides to check out the crops. He enjoyed traveling, making several trips to Las Vegas, along with a trip to Australia and New Zealand in 1989. He looked forward to his frequent visits to family in California. Family was the most important thing to Louis and he loved spending time with them.

Left to cherish his memory are his 15 children including daughters, Barbara Ring and husband, Jim of Chico, CA, Marsha Farnham and husband, Archie of Fairmont, MN, Jeanne Mortensen and husband, DeWane of Granada, MN, Dianne Gonnsen and husband, Bill of Fairmont, MN, Mary Broviak and husband, Dennis of Huntley, MN, Jennifer Nowicki and husband, Kevin of Fairmont, MN, Margaret Hiatt and husband, Bruce of Granada, MN, Nylene Sparks and husband, Matt of Baldwin, WI, Brenda Sturm and husband, Blaine of Coon Rapids, MN, Lori Whelan and husband, Mike of Oakley, CA, and Elizabeth Sparks and husband, Ben of Mankato, MN; sons, Richard Maday and wife, Joanne of Guckeen, MN, Thomas Maday and wife, Jean of Fairmont, MN, Louis John Maday and wife, Amy of Granada, MN, and Darren Maday and wife, Tevi of Granada, MN; 46 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Maday and wife, Emily of Penn Valley, CA; sister, Mary Garbers of Welcome, MN; brother-in-law, John McNerney and wife, Ruth of Blue Earth, MN; sister-in-law, Terry Maday of Napa, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Marvis Maday; parents, Joseph and Anna Maday; son, David Maday; an infant son; grandson, Ryan Mortensen and 3 infant grandchildren; brothers, Harold (Mickey) Maday, Donald (Grace) Maday and James Maday; sisters, Lillian Maday and Eileen (LeRoy) Sager; brother-in-law, Donald Garbers; and sisters-in-law, Rose Ann (Gus) Ewald and Monica (Clifford) Post.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, IA for taking loving care of Dad.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, IA or Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, MN.
