MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — Viola Gieseke Sepmeyer, 93, of Morehead City. N.C., died Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Brookdale in Morehead City.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Havelock LCMS. Burial will be 1 p.m. July 13 at Gethsemane Memorial Park, Newport, N.C.

Viola was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Fairmont, Minn., to Herman Dick Gieseke and Anna Johnson Gieseke. She graduated from Fairmont High School. She entered the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps at the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn., and graduated on Oct. 12, 1946. She became a registered nurse on Jan. 16, 1947, in Minnesota.

At the end of WWII, she wanted to travel and see the United States, where she met Carl Sepmeyer in Bandera, Texas, at a dude ranch, where they danced together and rode horses. She married Carl and they moved to Morehead City in 1956, raising their two children. She was the first recovery room nurse for Carteret General Hospital there.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl Sepmeyer of Morehead City; son, Arthur Carl Sepmeyer (wife Atsuko) of Redondo Beach, Calif.; daughter, Eileen Sepmeyer Dunlap (husband David) of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Evan Sepmeyer of Los Angeles, Calif., Lauren Dunlap of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, June Gieseke Anders (husband Gerald), sister, Dorothy Gieseke Stewart (husband Robert), brother, Merle Gieseke; cousin, Lucille Steiner and brother-in-law, David Lenort, all of Fairmont, Minn.; sister-in-law, Ruth Caswell of Collinsville, Ill.; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Gieseke; sister, Evelyn Gieseke Lenort; sister-in-law, Marion Gieseke; and brother-in-law, Robert Caswell.
