FAIRMONT — Funeral service for Calvin August Vaudt, 93, of Fairmont will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2019, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Fenton, Iowa. Military honors will be provided following the funeral at the funeral home by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019. at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Monday.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Calvin August Vaudt was born Aug. 22, 1925, near Whittemore, Iowa, in Kossuth County. He was the son of Walter and Lorena (Wehrspan) Vaudt. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Whittemore. He graduated from Whittemore High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police during World War II, stationed in Washington, D.C.

Calvin married Eunice (Johnson) at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Cylinder, Iowa, on Dec. 15, 1946. Together they had four children. They farmed near Fenton, Iowa, for 40 years. They retired in 1987 and moved to Fairmont, Minn., to their home overlooking Budd Lake.

Calvin and Eunice spent 30 years wintering in Texas and Arizona. They enjoyed socializing with friends from both Fairmont and Fenton areas and made many new friends in their RV park. They enjoyed stopping to visit their children and family members on their winter road trips. In the summer, Calvin kept busy with his love of gardening, planting flowers, fishing and working in his shop.

Calvin was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Calvin passed away July 3 in Fairmont. In his last days, he was surrounded by many members of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eunice; children Candace (Richard) Fowler of Springfield, Mo., Randy (Barbara) Vaudt of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Glenda (Vance) Voigt of Plano, Texas, Gayle (William) Cogger of Rosemount, Minn.; grandchildren Mara (Michael) Dockery and Ryan Voigt; great grandchildren Alder and Orion Dockery; sister Ann (Warren) Wood of Humboldt, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lorena Vaudt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ervin and Esther Johnson; four sisters, Dawn (John) Struecker, Phyllis (Harold) Behnke, Jeannette (Elmer) Maachs, Sandy (Don) Morrow; two brothers, Eugene (Caroline) Vaudt, Harlan (Vernita) Vaudt; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Martin Luther High School in Northrop, Minn., or your choice.
