ESTHERVILLE — Iris Mardelle Stroup died Monday, May 20, 2019, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa, at the age of 86. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville, Iowa, with Pastor John Sy-vertson officiating. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. She will be laid to rest at East Side Cemetery, Estherville.

Iris Mardelle Stroup was born Aug. 6, 1932, at home in Buena Vista County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Iva (Ammons) Henley. She received her education and graduated from Linn Grove High School in 1949.

On Dec. 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Elvin Stroup in Linn Grove, Iowa. In December of 1956, the family moved to Estherville, where Mardelle worked at Avera Holy Family Hospital for 37 years. She retired in 1998.

Mardelle enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.

Elvin died in 2002.

Mardelle was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Mardelle’s memory are her children, Barbara (Dennis) Koenecke of Estherville, Charles Stroup of Estherville, Carol (Doug) Bosma of Emmons, Minn., Jane (Marc) Bell of Blue Earth, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren with one on the way; and sister, Wanda Grote of Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Arlene, Norma, Avis and Irma; and three brothers, William, Burt and Craig.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to First Presbyterian Church, St. Luke Lutheran Home, Spencer, Iowa or Kindred Hospice.

The Stroup family would like to thank the St. Luke Lutheran Home for the wonderful compassionate care given to their mother.
