FAIRMONT — Funeral services for Rick A. Johnson, age 58, of Kensett, IA, formerly of Fairmont, MN, will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.

Rick passed away on Friday evening, May 3, 2019. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center Chapel in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rick Allen Johnson was born February 23, 1961, to Jorgen R. and Marjorie Ann (Langendorfer) Johnson in Battle Creek, IA. He graduated from Northfield High School. After high school, Rick enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served from July 30, 1980, until being honorably discharged on July 29, 1984. He attended Manna Christian College in North Carolina and graduated from Northwestern University in St. Paul, MN, and Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN.

On Oct. 22, 1988, Rick was united in marriage to Susan Piltingsrud in Owatonna, MN. They lived in Owatonna until 1992, when they moved to New Richland, MN, and then to Fairmont, MN, in 2004. While living in Fairmont, Rick worked at Aerospace for two years and then at Avery Weigh-Tronix for 13 years. Recently, Rick and Susan moved to Kensett, IA, where Rick worked at Curries as a manufacturing engineer.

Rick was involved with Options Pregnancy Center for several years.

He enjoyed hunting with his Dad in his younger years, exercising, rollerblading, swimming, jogging, hiking, biking and most of all spending time with his family.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Susan Johnson; seven children, Emily (Nate) McCoy, Jorgen A. (Savannah) Johnson, Charis Johnson, Tirtsah Johnson, Aleythia (Luke) Slaughter, Lydia (David) Frank and Jorell Johnson; three grandchildren, Kaira and Colton McCoy and soon-to-be granddaughter, Keanna Johnson; parents, Jorgen R. and Marjorie Johnson; three sisters, Kelli Johnson, Ellen (Terry) Peterson and Jennifer (Scott) Hillman; mother-in-law, I. Marie Piltingsrud; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Typhanny Rose Johnson and father-in-law, Dale Piltingsrud.
