ST. JAMES — LaMae Hippen, age 86, of St. James, died Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James, with Rev. Martin Lopahs officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.

LaMae June Krenz was born Oct. 12, 1932, on a farm near Sanborn, Minn., the daughter of Martin and Hazel (Johnson) Krenz. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn and confirmed April 14, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Truman. In 1935, the family moved to the farm near Truman. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Truman until 8th grade and graduated from Truman High School in 1950. LaMae went to DeLye’s Beauty School in Fairmont to become a hairdresser.

On Aug. 15, 1953, she was united in marriage to Henry Hippen at St. Paul’s in Truman. The couple made their home in St. James since 1955 and were members at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James. She was a resident at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James for three years.

LaMae enjoyed gardening, baking, polka music and being with family and friends.

She is survived by her children: daughters, Jean and Timothy Nelson of St. James, Joyce and Logan Sizer of Darfur, son Jay Hippen and friend, Michele of West Yellowstone, Mont.; grandsons Nicholas and Anna Nelson of Coon Rapids, Zachary and Chelsey Nelson of Cannon Falls, Tyrell Sizer, Levi Sizer both of St. James; great-grandsons, Hayden Nelson, Knight Nelson; great-granddaughter, Everly Nelson; sister, Darlene and Albert Cordt of Northrop; brother, Larry and Cindy Krenz of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Leona Farrow of Swea City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Larry and Judy Hippen of Fresno, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Henry on April 22, 1999; son, Jerry on April 25, 1984; grandson, Joshua Nelson in 1997; and brothers, Emil and Howard.
