Jacob ‘Jake’ Fretty

FAIRMONT — A Service of Remembrance and Celebration for Jacob “Jake” Fretty, 84, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fairmont, followed by a luncheon. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Jake passed away Wednesday morning, March 6, 2019, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.

The family requests that any memorial donations be designated to local ministry and charity organizations: Martin County Youth For Christ, Options Pregnancy Center, Gideons International or Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center.

Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jacob “Jake” Fretty was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Pilot Grove Township to Jacob and Ruby Fretty. Jake attended East Chain Consolidated School where he met his future wife, Beverly Peterson.

Jake and Bev were married March 7, 1953, at her parents’ home on South Orient St. in Fairmont. They have lived their entire married life in Fairmont and the Martin County area. They were blessed with two children, Sue and Randy.

Throughout his life, Jake entered into many business endeavors including: the Dunnell Locker, C&J Salvage in Guckeen, Jake’s Salvage in Sioux Falls and Fairmont, and in later years, he owned Jake’s Auto Sales and Jake’s RV & Surplus. He loved what he did, and he enjoyed the people whom he met along the way.

Jake placed his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and, over the years, grew in his faith. He was an active member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church, where he served in various capacities enjoying the fellowship and friendships of many people. He also served with Gideon International and its commitment to worldwide Bible distribution.

Jake enjoyed his family tremendously and nothing brought him greater joy than being together and making special memories.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Bev; children: Sue (John) Lund of Fairmont, Randy Fretty of Crystal River, Fla.; grandchildren, Brian (Samantha) Lund of Garner, Iowa, Christie (Alex) Schmidt of Fairmont, Matt (Megan) Fretty of Fairmont, Ashley (Riley) Anderson of Duncan, S.C.; nine great-grandchildren, Aidan, Lucy and Owen Lund, Sophie, Elise and Camille Schmidt, Emma Fretty, and Lily and Everly Anderson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Peterson and Ardys Bloom, both of Fairmont; many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and friends.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Ruby Fretty; in-laws, Henry and Mayme Peterson; daughter-in-law, Brenda Fretty; granddaughter, Hannah Fretty; sisters, Irene (Tim) Holland, Luella (Carrol) Bacon; brother, Tom (Jean) Fretty; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, June (Wally) Jensen, Fillmore (Arloine) Peterson, Maurice Peterson, and Bob Peterson.
