FAIRMONT — A funeral service for David A. Shelstad, age 66, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be held at Beaver Valley Cemetery, Beaver Creek, Minn.

David passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minn. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

David Allen Shelstad was born June 4, 1952, in Montevideo, Minn., the son of Harold and Lois (Johnson) Shelstad. He attended school in Windom, Minn., and later continued his education in carpentry at Pipestone VoTech in 1973.

On Dec. 30, 1973, David was united in marriage to Laurita Hill at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, Minn. After getting married, David and Laurita resided in Lakefield, Minn. In 1982, the couple moved to Luverne, Minn., before living in Texas for many years.

After their retirements in 2006, they moved to Fairmont. David and Laurita shared over 45 years together before Laurita passed away on Dec. 19, 2018.

David spent his career working in construction as a carpenter. He enjoyed working with his hands and was known to put his carpentry skills to use at home on many occasions.

During his free time, David spent time outdoors and especially loved fishing or going for walks with Laurita.

Left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Christina Dankworth and her husband, Dwight of Leander, Texas, and Teresa Cox and her husband, Ray of Highland Village, Texas; grandchildren, Jasmine, Alexander, and Jada Dankworth, and Wyatt Cox; father, Harold Shelstad of Fairmont, Minn.; siblings, Lyndon Shelstad of Fairmont, Gail Mann and husband, Michael of WV, Karen Shelstad of Fairmont, and Raymond Shelstad of Fairmont; other relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Laurita Shelstad; and mother, Lois Shelstad.
