Elma “Bonnie” LaVonne DeBoer was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Goldia (Cox) Clabaugh. She received her education attending school in Dolliver, Iowa.

LaVonne worked at Jeck’s Poultry and Egg Company where she met Lawrence DeBoer, and the couple was married on June 30, 1946, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn. Together, the couple farmed near Truman, Minn. for five years before moving back to Fairmont in 1958.

LaVonne worked at Mallon Egg Plant until they closed in 1983. She then worked at Armour before joining the Fairmont School District, working as a school crossing guard for 18 years in addition to working at Walmart as a greeter, a job she truly enjoyed and where everyone knew her smile.

LaVonne and Larry were blessed to celebrate 64 years of marriage prior to Larry’s passing in 2011.

She was always busy working around the house most of the time in her bare feet, but as soon as company would come over, she was sure to greet them with her shoes on. She was sure to have met Jesus when he came to get her with her shoes on. LaVonne zest for life and her “Walmart Smile” will be greatly missed by those that loved her and called her a friend.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Valerie DeBoer of Oklahoma City, Okla., Linette Bents of Fairmont, Minn., Leroy DeBoer of Naples, Fla., Colette (David) Christiansen of Pillager, Minn., Shelley Wilson of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; grandsons, Ian (Anna) Bents, and Brody Bents, both of Fairmont, Minn., Joseph DeBoer and Cameron Wilson, both of Ft.
