Phyllis June Nave

FAIRMONT — Phyllis June Nave, 92, of Fairmont, Minn., and member of Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, after multiple strokes. Phyllis requested her body be donated for research. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.

Phyllis was born June 22, 1926, in Silver Lake Township, to Albert and Zeba Peterson. She attended country school until her early teens when she transferred to Fairmont School.

She met her future husband, Gene Nave, while he was working on her parents’ farm. They were married April 20, 1945. One year later, they welcomed Kathy and, three years later, their second daughter, Pat, was born. The family moved many times before returning to Fairmont, where they opened Gene’s Cleaners. Phyllis worked there waiting on customers, pressing and sewing, along with raising her family. At age 40, another daughter, Jill was born. Two other babies, Scott and Jodi, were adopted soon after.

Phyllis enjoyed square dancing, bowling, crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, and was active in her church and home bible study. Family was important to her and she loved family visits. Her love of rusks and lutefisk came from her Swedish heritage.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Kathy (Ron) of Stewartville, Minn., Pat (Doug) of Appleton, Wis., Jill (Ken) of Hot Springs, S.D., Scott (Gayle) of Flowermound, Texas, and Jodi (Joe) of Fairmont; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marion Peterson of Fairmont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; grandchild, Michelle; parents, Albert and Zeba; sister, Ruby; and brother, Harold.
