ESTHERVILLE — Angela “Angie” J. Finley, 50, of Estherville, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, with Father Merlin Schrad as Celebrant.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Angela “Angie” Jean Finley was born Aug. 14, 1968, in Trimont, Minn., to Don and Judy Hoffmeister. Angie graduated from Sherburn-Dunnell High School, where she sang in the choir, played the clarinet and performed in the color guard for the band, and played volleyball and basketball. She graduated from Saint Mary’s University in Winona, Minn., with a degree in elementary education and a chemistry minor.

While at Saint Mary’s, Angie met David Finley, and they were married on Aug. 21, 1993, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn.

Angie’s first teaching job was at Parmelee Elementary School in the Todd County Schools, South Dakota. After they married, Angie and David moved to St. Charles, Minn., where Angie worked for Head Start. In 1995, they moved to Estherville, where David was hired to teach Spanish at Estherville Lincoln Central High School. Angie was a substitute teacher for ELC and area schools, which was how she learned that she preferred teaching high school. She worked to get certified to teach high school science, and in 2000 Angie was hired to teach chemistry at ELC High School. She eventually taught earth science and environmental science in addition to chemistry and advanced chemistry, continuing to teach at ELC through the current school year. Angie was a teacher who told her students to never give up and that they could do what it takes to succeed.

Angie and David were blessed with three children: Bridget (19), a sophomore at Saint Mary’s University; Brendan (16), a sophomore at ELC High School; and Brynn (11), a sixth-grader at ELC Middle School.

Angie loved attending her children’s fine arts performances and athletic competitions, strongly encouraging them to participate in both throughout their school careers. When Bridget was a high school freshman, Angie was hired to coach the ELC dance team, which she did for the next three years. Angie’s love for her children was fierce, and they meant the world to her.

Angie was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, singing in the choir and playing the organ.

She was avid sports fan, especially when it came to her beloved Gophers, Vikings and Twins. Angie enjoyed traveling with David and the kids to warmer destinations, especially South Texas, Myrtle Beach, and Walt Disney World.

Angie is survived by her husband, David; children, Bridget, Brendan, and Brynn; parents, Don and Judy Hoffmeister of Sherburn; sisters, Jackie (Daryl) Tlam of Dunnell, Nicolle (Danny) Eytcheson of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, and Jenny (Steve) Tusa of Alpha; six brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; five nieces; 11 nephews; aunt and uncle, David and Cynthia Erdal of Woodridge, Ill.; cousins, Christian Erdal of Woodridge and Erik Erdal of Chicago.

Angie was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Bob and Pat Finley.
