GRANADA — Memorial services for Janice Marie Shumski, 78, of rural Granada, Minn., will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, Minn.

Janice passed away Monday evening, June 18, 2018, at her home in rural Granada. Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Inurnment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.

Memorials are preferred to Lakeside Cemetery.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Janice Marie Tonne Shumski was born Sept. 7, 1939, in Laporte, Minn., daughter of Edward and Lydia (Crousore) Tonne. Janice grew up on farms in Pleasant Prairie Township and attended school in Granada.

On June 5, 1958, Janice married Melvin Shumski and farmed with him near East Chain, Minn. They had four sons together, James, Steven, Gary and Mark. Janice and Melvin were later divorced. Janice worked on the farm for several years and then part-time at A&W. She then went on to work at Brute Cycle in Fairmont, Telex in Blue Earth, Minn., and eventually Weigh-Tronix in Fairmont, where she retired from after 25 years.

Janice enjoyed puzzles, reading, bird watching, the MN Vikings and most of all spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by four sons, James Shumski of rural Blue Earth, Steven Shumski and his wife, Phyllis, of rural Granada, Gary Shumski and his wife, Mary, of Granada and Mark Shumski of rural Granada; nine grandchildren, Derek Shumski of Granada, Kayla (Eric) Huper of Wells, Carter (Emily) Shumski of Fairmont, Danielle (Wade) Blazejak of Rochester, Becky Sharp of Granada, Ryan Shumski of Fairmont, Rachel Shumski of Granada, Chelsey (Cameron) Hanson of New Salem, N.D., and Ashley (Ryan) Healey of Fairmont; nine great-grandchildren; special nephews (the Budach “boys”); other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Edward and Lydia Tonne, Janice was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Tonne and Ronald Tonne; one sister, Peggy Budach; and one great-grandchild, Calder Hanson.
