Bonita ‘Bonni’ Buchmeier

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS — Bonita “Bonni” Buchmeier, age 65, of Inver Grove Heights passed away peacefully Feb. 7, 2018, surrounded by her loving family after a short battle against cancer.

Bonni grew up on a farm just outside Red Lake Falls, MN. She graduated from Bemidji State University, where she met her husband, Valdin “Val” Buchmeier, and they were married in 1973. They started their family together in Saint Cloud, MN, where they had six wonderful children. While in St. Cloud, Bonni taught math at Saints Peter and Paul middle school and was very involved in the church community.

In 1990, the family started a new adventure and moved to Crookston, MN. She continued her teaching career for 21 years at the University Minnesota Crookston. She kept busy with her six kids and was actively involved at the Cathedral Church.

After retiring in 2012, she and Val moved to the Twin Cities to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Nothing made Bonni happier than spending time with her family. She spent many hours watching her children and grandchildren perform in concerts, dance recitals, musicals and various sporting events. She and Val enjoyed traveling the country with the free time on their hands, which included “empty nesters” weekends. She spent a lot of her spare time doing the things she loved: shopping, reading, watching movies, attending concerts, playing games with the family and most of all, spending quality time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband Val of 44 years; children Heidi (Brian) Veith, their children Haydn and Cole, Justin (Shonna) Buchmeier, their children Colin and Emma, Kyle (Paige) Buchmeier, their child Avery, Eric (Lindsay) Buchmeier, their children Adalyn and Logan, Rachel Buchmeier and Alisyn Buchmeier. Her mother Kathleen Amiot and siblings Debra (Rick) Schue, Curtis (Mary) Amiot, Ramona (Gary) Thibert and Kevin (Deb) Amiot. Also her mother-in-law Irene Buchmeier and brother-in-law Randy Buchmeier.

She is preceded in death by her father Donald Amiot; father-in-law, Harold Buchmeier; brother-in-law, Harold Junior Buchmeier, along with other extended family members.
