Margaret Jean Harder was born May 12, 1922, in Butterfield, Minn., to John M. and Sarah (Enns) Harder. She received her education at District #30 Country School. Margaret was a life-long member of the First Mennonite Church, Mt. Lake, Minn.

On May 20, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to John Adrian at First Mennonite Church. They made their home and farmed north of Butterfield until moving to the edge of Butterfield in the early ’80s. She was very independent and taught her children to stand up for themselves.

For many years, she taught Sunday school and was very active in the Ladies Mission Society.

Margaret loved music and was an avid reader.

She volunteered with the St. James/Mankato Hospice program for over 25 years and also for Worthington Hospice Compassionate Care since 2011.

Her love of travel took her to all the continents except for one to satisfy her adventurous spirit.

She loved flowers, planting trees and still mowed her lawn with her zero-turn mower at age 94. Walking around the lake trail at Voss Park was another favorite. This love of the outdoors was instilled in her grandchildren through many camping trips.

She is survived by her children, Shirley (Don) Ratzlaff of Marion, Iowa, and their children, Mark (Laurie) Ratzlaff and Dean (Rayla) Ratzlaff; Jean (Tommy) Thomas of Marion, S.D., and their daughter, Kyra (Mike) Russell; Duane (Sharon) Adrian of Goessel, Kan., and their children, Randall (Kari) Adrian, Janna (Duane) Duerksen, Russell (Camille) Adrian, Sara (Jeremy) Rohr; Harry’s children, Justin (Colleen) Adrian, John Adrian, Amanda (Lawrence) Kasay; Margaret (Maloye) Thomas of Butterfield, and their children, Dustin (Jill) Thomas, April (Mark) Lewke; Glenn (Terry) Adrian of Butterfield, and their daughter, Emily Adrian; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; two brothers, Raymond Harder of Mt. Lake, and John (Virgene) Harder of Clermont, Fla.; and sisters-in-law, Agnes Braaten and Eleanor Adrian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John (2003); son, Harry (1984); grandson, Zachary (Glenn) Adrian (2005); her parents; and her brother, Milton Harder, one week before her death.
