Joyce A. (Cowing) Grefe

EL LAGO, Texas — Joyce A. (Cowing) Grefe passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, in El Lago, Texas. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Feb. 17, at Anderson Funeral Home in Apple Valley, with burial in Lebanon Hills Cemetery.

Joyce was born Aug. 1, 1931, to Harry and Jessie Cowing who resided near Granada.

Joyce was married to Louis Grefe on Oct. 23, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters.

Joyce was a homemaker, wife, and mother. Joyce and Louis resided in the Fairmont area until moving to Minneapolis area for many years, until Louis death. At that time, Joyce moved to Houston Texas to be near her daughters.

Alongside of Louis, Joyce dedicated many years to their church and, after retirement, became active members of the Laborers for Christ, traveling the country building Lutheran churches. She was a devoted Christian remaining an active member of the LWML and other church groups.

Joyce enjoyed crocheting and other crafts also. She will always be remembered for her love of baking, especially cookies for everyone to enjoy.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louis; brother, Joe Cowing; and sister, Jane (Cowing) Loos.

She is survived by her two daughters, Joy Blanchard and her husband, Ron, of Hondo Texas, Jodie Seeger and husband, Hartwig, of Taylor Lake Village, Texas; two grandsons, Lt. Commander Marcus Seeger and wife, Amanda of Memphis, Tenn., and their children, Marcus Jr., Ethan and Avery, and Lt. Commander Lucas Seeger and wife, Jenny of Suffolk, Va., and their two sons Caleb and Mason.
