ARMSTRONG — Tyrone Askeland died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont, Minn., at the age of 67 years. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, with Pastor Lauri Boysen officiating. He will be laid to rest in Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong, Iowa. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. tonight at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong.

Herman Tyrone Askeland was born Dec. 11, 1950, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Herman and Grace (Reitmeier) Askeland. He received his education and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1969. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard for six years.

On Dec. 19, 1970, he was united in marriage to Peggy Davis at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. The couple farmed near Armstrong for 44 years.

He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong.

The most important things to Tyrone were farming, fishing, family and his faith. He enjoyed golfing, spending time at the lake, trips with his family, woodworking and had a love for Corvettes.

Left to cherish Tyrone’s memory are his wife, Peggy; children, Troy (Dawn) Askeland, and Jacque (Michael) Moats; grandchildren, Andrew and Kelsi Askeland, Jacob, Nicholas and Kayla Moats; parents, Herman and Grace Askeland of Armstrong; sister, Gayle Askeland; nephew Chad, (Marguax) Askeland; and mother-in-law, Nadine Abel.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and brother, Charles Askeland. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong.
