LAKEFIELD — Leland C. Pohlman, 91, formerly of Lakefield, passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was 91 years, 6 months, and 5 days old.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, with Pastor Daniel Provost officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lakefield.

Leland was born April 14, 1926, in Lakefield, Minn., to George and Lillian (Burmeister) Pohlman. He was baptized May 2, 1926, and confirmed April 2, 1939, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Leland graduated from Lakefield High School in 1944. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Leland married the love of his life, Elaine Sloneker, on June 13, 1948, in Fairmont, Minn. He and Elaine farmed until his retirement in 1989, at which time he and Elaine moved to Lakefield.

He served on various church committees at both St. Peter and Immanuel Lutheran, sang in the church choir, and served on the boards of the Estherville Creamery, Des Moines Watershed, Lakefield Elevator and Lakefield Lumber Yard.

Leland enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also took pride in maintaining his home’s beautiful lawn and garden.

Due to his declining health, Leland moved to Bethany Meadows Assisted Living in Brandon, S.D., in 2013.

Leland is survived by his daughters, Diane Fueston of Brandon, S.D., Deb (Hugh) Cholick of Duluth, Ga., and Lee Cunningham of Harrisonville, Mo.; three granddaughters, Heather (Hans) Eickhorst of Harrisonville, Mo., Kindell (Thad) Pierce of Worland, Wyo., and Kelli (Evan) Nyhof of Valley Springs, S.D.; five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kate Eickhorst, Taylor and Samantha Pierce, and Hayden Nyhof; and one sister, Eleanor (Les) Mueller of Okoboji, Iowa.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, Jamie; brother, Carlyle; and two sons-in-law, Clint Fueston and Dan Cunningham.
