Joseph A. Kramer

DULUTH — A memorial service for Joseph A. Kramer, of Duluth, formerly of Truman, will be held 3 p.m. Friday, June 16, at Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, MN. Joe died Thursday, June 1, 2017, after a long struggle with mental health and alcoholism.

Joe was born in 1954 to Bill and Meg (Nyrop) Kramer and was raised in Truman, Minn. He attended college at Hamline University in St. Paul, which led him to a long career as teacher and educator in the Forest Lake school district. There, he shared his love of literature and nature with students for over 20 years.

Despite his struggles in later years, his love for bicycling, skiing, poetry and especially his two sons remained strong.

Joe is survived by his two sons, Maxwell (Christina) Kramer, and Conor Kramer, both of Minneapolis, Minn.; and three siblings, Katherine (Donald) Johnson of St. Paul, William Kramer of Truman, Gretchen (Douglas) Bancks of Fairmont.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
